The Birth Story

1 Week Old

It ended up different then what we were expecting, but thanks to modern technology, monitoring devices and great Nurses and Doctors our little peanut is here healthy and happy. We were scheduled to be induced at 7:00 a.m. on the 31st. I was nervous, but definitely ready. I had been dilated to a 4 for 2 weeks and 90% effaced and having contractions for the last month. I got there and they started me on antibiotic. At about 11:00 the Dr. ordered my epidural hoping to slow down my contractions so they had enough time to finish the antibiotic. Thank goodness. The epidural made my blood pressure drop to 50 / 30. I have never had a reaction to them before, so it was a little scary. The Dr. came in at 1:20 and broke my water and left to run back to his office (which is right next to the hospital) They started Pitocin right after and my contractions picked up. I remember my nurse saying "I am going to have someone come and look at this monitor." After that it was chaos. About 5 nurses came rushing in and about 5 minutes later my Dr showed up (He got the call and ran over from his office) They were pretty quiet, but rushing around. The babies heart rate would drop with each contraction from beating from 145 to 150 all morning to 60 beats. They started pumping water back into me hoping that would help. Her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and it was really small (smaller then my pinkie finger). When my water broke, so much water came out at once she moved down and it tightened around her neck and pinched it. The Dr. watched 3 more contractions with no improvement so we rushed in to have an emergency C-Section. It was a whole different experience, lets just say I am so glad it's over. I am so thankful for the Dr and nurses who were right there to help us!
